Our Journey
“Âmago,” derived from the Iberian term for Heart, Core, or Essence, embodies our dedication to capturing the true soul of sound. Our journey began at the University of Aveiro, one of Portugal’s leading research institutions, with a shared passion for audio and innovation. Incubated by the university and operating from the Creative Science Park in Aveiro — a hub of advanced engineering and innovation that also hosts Siemens Mobility — we undertook a four-year journey of intensive research, development, and testing, designing our electro-acoustic systems from the ground up.
Rooted in the picturesque Aveiro district, often referred to as the “Portuguese Venice,” Âmago Audio draws inspiration from the region’s rich cultural heritage and inventive spirit. Around 90% of our components are crafted in Europe, while design, testing, and hand assembly take place at our Aveiro facility. Recently, Âmago Audio was awarded funding from the European Union’s Centro2030 program, supporting our continued research and development in high-precision audio technologies.
This meticulous approach allows us to push industry boundaries, setting new benchmarks for performance, reliability, and sonic precision, while ensuring that our microphones embody both technical excellence and the essence of sound.

Engineering Innovation
Our design philosophy is built on measurable truth and first-principles engineering — addressing the physical limitations that have long constrained conventional microphone designs.
Featuring 4.1 mm and 7.1 mm diaphragms, our microphones establish a new benchmark through µSDC™ Technology, Âmago’s proprietary Ultra-Small Diaphragm Condenser architecture. Combined with our hybrid-bias topology and an ultra-wideband 1.5 MHz preamplifier, this approach delivers self-noise figures as low as 15 dBA while preserving exceptional transient speed, wide dynamic range, phase linearity, and impulse accuracy.
In practice, this means microphones that don’t fight the source — or the engineer. Placement becomes intuitive, transients arrive intact, and mixes sound right before processing begins. The result is an immersive, lifelike soundstage that lets the microphone disappear and the performance take over.

Engineering Precision
Our design philosophy centers on transparency and accuracy, addressing common issues found in conventional microphones. Most traditional models suffer from slow impulse response, off-axis coloration, phase distortion, handling noise, and uncontrolled proximity effect, often resulting in sounds that are either overly dark and muddy or excessively bright and harsh.
At Âmago Audio, we’ve engineered our microphones to overcome these challenges by extending bandwidth (and hence the speed), eliminating unnecessary frequency peaks, tightening polar patterns, and avoiding reflections and phase cancellations. Beyond that, we’ve carefully designed our microphones with a controlled proximity effect, ensuring a clear and balanced bass response even at very close distances. This allows for the most natural and uncolored sound that integrates seamlessly into any mix.
